Food Pantry in Murray Utah Closes Due to Sequester Cuts
Salt Lake Community Action Program has announced that due to recent sequester cuts they will be closing their Murray Food Pantry.
The pantry filled an average of 1,100 emergency food orders each month as well as providing community services such as registration for food stamps, heat and referrals to other programs.
Those who were served by the food pantry will now be served by one of four other pantries according to their zip code. This can however be problematic as many community members do not have transportation.
The pantry was convenient for people working multiple jobs as they were open for extended hours and on Saturdays. The Redwood Neighborhood Center is now open on Saturdays beginning March 23, 2013 and is open to residents regardless of their zip code if they are unable to visit their regular pantry during the week.
